Today I'm excited to share a special project with you. 29 years ago my parents were expecting their first baby, my sister Cassie. My dad's twin brother, Uncle Dale, made this beautiful cradle and it has become a priceless family heirloom. My grandmother made some yellow bumper pads to go in the cradle as well. Over the years they have become worn and the plastic wasn't in great shape. After being in storage for a long time, I decided it was time to do some work on the cradle. I cleaned it up, recovered the pads with some adorable Winnie the Pooh fabric, and I am so excited with how it turned out!
This is what the pads looked like before. They are worn and not in the best shape. But because my Grandma made them I couldn't bear to part with them. So I kept them and just recovered them.
For the bottom piece I just made a slip cover pillow case so that it could be removed and washed.
And voila!
Here is the cradle, after a lot of cleaning and pledge-ing with the bottom and the side bumpers in place.
Another view of the cradle
... and a close up of Winnie the Pooh. I purchased this Pooh the day that I found out I was pregnant. He's actually a rattle, and he is just adorable. Winnie the Pooh has always been my favorite Disney character, so I'm excited to share him with Cameron too!
I am so happy with how it turned out. I'm glad to have the opportunity to help make something that my grandmother and my uncle both contributed to. I cannot wait for Cameron to use it, and I look forward to passing it on to my own grandchildren one day. :)
